Native American Falls Hike Near Sand Gap

I have written several articles recently about some of the hiking gems that can be found along AR Hwy 7. Waterfall hikes like Fern Falls, Hudson Shelter Falls, and Lonesome Hollow are just the tip of the iceberg. There are many more of those yet to go. Some of them are longer hikes, some are more difficult bushwhacks, and some are further off Hwy 7. I’ll try to eventually include as many as I can here. As for the more popular hikes closer to Hwy 7, the next on our list is the Native American Falls hike near Sand Gap. Much like Fern Falls, the parking location for Native American Falls is right on Hwy 7. There are no gravel roads to travel or complicated directions. It’s simply a dirt parking area off the highway, just south of the Hwy 16 intersection at Sand...

Hike to Buzzards Roost

I find something to enjoy about every hike that I do. But some hikes are better than others. And then there are the ones that really stand out from the rest. Those are usually the ones where I spend the whole time thinking “how am I just now visiting this place?!”. The hike to Buzzards Roost is the latest one that really blew me away. Maybe it’s because I geek out a little bit over crazy rock formations (see video below), and this hike is full of them. This geological wonderland has two natural bridges and a huge rock outcropping/vista full of caves and tunnels. I would compare it to the Bear Cave Trail area at Petit Jean State Park, but more impressive. It also didn’t hurt that we caught this area on the last weekend of peak leaf season this fall. This hike has a c...

Falling Water Falls – An AR Natural Swimming hole

Welcome to Part 3 of the Big Piney Forest Waterfall Day Hike Series – Falling Water Falls. This one is the last stop of a day trip spent hiking in the Big Piney Forest near Pelsor. In you missed the first 2 installments, Part 1 was the first leg of our day trip, Haw Creek Falls. And Part 2 was a hike to Kings Bluff Falls. So be sure to check out those stories for more info, maps, and pics. Our final stop of the day was my first visit ever to Falling Water Falls. This is a popular and highly-photographed waterfall and swimming area that you’ve probably seen on Instagram, Facebook, and other places. It’s so photogenic that it even made it onto the header image for some of the pages on this site. If you are ever hiking in this area in the summer, this is the best p...

Hike to Kings Bluff Falls

Welcome back!  This is Part 2 of a series of my first Ozark Waterfall hikes. This is the second stop on a day trip spent hiking in the Big Piney Forest near Pelsor.  If you missed it, Part 1 was the first leg of our day trip at Haw Creek Falls. So be sure to check that out for more info, maps, and pics. Our next stop that day was a hike to Kings Bluff Falls. Directions From Haw Creek, this was a backtrack to Hwy 7. (North on Hwy 7 past Dover to the Sand Gap/Pelsor area). At the intersection at Pelsor Post Office you take a right on Hwy 16 towards Ben Hur. See Google map below for directions to this and Falling Water Falls (Part 3). You will see a sign on the right for Pedestal Rocks / Kings Bluff Falls. Once you park, you’ll find the two trail heads are pretty close togethe...
